Taika Waititi On ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’ Multiverse Theories

Taika Waititi responds to Multiverse theories related to his upcoming film, Thor: Love and Thunder.

When it comes to Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s no secret that perhaps the most-discussed element about it is the concept of the Multiverse. Whether it is through Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home, or the Doctor Strange sequel, it’s been constantly discussed. Naturally, this has led to some thinking that it could potentially be a factor in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder.

In a recent interview with Total Film Magazine, Taika Waititi confirmed that Thor: Love and Thunder will not involve the Multiverse, and is focused on its own narrative separate from the shenanigans that were on display in WandaVision, Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange 2. Although Waititi “[likes] the idea of the Multiverse… nothing like that in this film,” also describing the film as “the singular-verse.”

Taika Waititi is an Academy Award-winning screenwriter with one of the most unique visions of any artist in the Hollywood system right now. His eccentric voice as a storyteller has endeared him to many viewers, especially MCU fans in how he revitalized Thor (as well as Chris Hemsworth’s renewed passion for the role).

Here is the synopsis for Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Taika Waititi, Russell Crowe, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
