Disney Exec Can’t Say If Op-Ed Caused Johnny Deep’s Pirates Role Loss

Disney Executive Tina Newman has stated that she is unaware of any part that Amber Heard’s Op-Ed played in Johnny Depp losing his Pirates of the Caribbean role.

In what now feels like an eternity ago, Johnny Depp launched several lawsuits against his ex-wife Amber Heard and various news outlets related to her. One lawsuit was launched against The Sun where the paper called him a wife-beater. That trial wrapped up back in late 2020 with the court ruling against Depp.

Last year a judge allowed the case against Amber Heard to go forward. This lawsuit was specifically against Heard for an op-ed that she published in The Washington Post where she claimed to be a survivor of domestic abuse. Her former husband, Johnny Depp is suing her for this op-ed claiming that, among other things, it caused him to lose his role in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Since the trial began both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have spoken about their flagship franchises at length. Johnny Depp has since stated that he has no interest in returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean part. Amber Heard has gone on at length about how the ongoing lawsuits are ruining her career, almost causing her to lose her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, how her role in the film was reduced because of it and worries that she may not make the final cut. Yet throughout all of this, one Disney executive is unaware of any part the op-ed played in Depp losing his Pirates role.

In a video deposition, Disney production executive Tina Newman spoke about Johnny Depp’s role in the Pirates of the Caribbean films. Specifically, she spoke about his antics on the set of the 5th film, Dead Men Tell No Tales. However, she was not aware of any role that Amber Heard’s op-ed played in him losing the role.

Johnny Depp made his debut as Captain Jack Sparrow in the first Pirates film, The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. The film garnered him an Academy Award-nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. The series went on for four more sequels, with the last one released back in 2017 in Dead Men Tell No Tales.

All five Pirates films are available to stream on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding the ongoing defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
